DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, April 4, 2018 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />April 4, 2018, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKs GOVERNMENT CENTER, <br />345 6 1 Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council Vice -President Richard Huddy <br />presiding. Council Members present were Michael Goodnow, Tony Hillman, Kevin Gorman, Leslie <br />Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council President Eric Younger was absent. Also present were City <br />Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin <br />Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the invocation <br />provided by Retired Pastor Russ Reuther formerly of Sylvan Way Baptist Church. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Wheeler... <br />• Provided data to show the 5 -year trend of approved City permits; <br />• Discussed grants for planned improvements of Kitsap Lake and at Kitsap Lake Park; <br />• In preparation for applying for grant applications, the community is invited to provide <br />feedback on the Warren Avenue Playfield Renovation Concept; and <br />• Met with Presidents of Western Washington University and Olympic College to discuss the <br />upcoming Sub -Area Plan Review and Market Analysis for East Bremerton which will include <br />the former Harrison Medical Center site. <br />PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br />Mike Walton discussed the events and activities taking place at the Kitsap Family YMCA including <br />Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with free food, games, and <br />activities; and mentioned that after 10 -years, this would be his last report since he is moving on to <br />another business venture. On behalf of the City, Vice -President Huddy thanked him and wished <br />him well. <br />David Raymond with the Kitsap 911 Memorial Stewardship Program, reported on the recent <br />clean-up event at the Kitsap 911 Memorial; and noted that since they ran out of time, he invited <br />volunteers to the continued clean-up event on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 PM. <br />Caroline Stein summarized the highlights of the 2018 Washington State Science & Engineering <br />Fair; thanked Council Vice -President Huddy and Council Members Sullivan and Hillman for <br />volunteering their services; and announced the next WSSEF would be held March 29 & 30, 2019. <br />Terry Fessner pointed out that the grounds around the Norm Dicks Government Center look really <br />nice; asked if the City could replace a tree that was removed from 5th Street in front of the Kitsap <br />Sun, especially since it was planted in honor of a child Sarah Maryann; and also hoped the City <br />would soon illuminate the streetlights recently installed along the new sidewalks at East Park. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />5A— Claims & Check Register: Check Numbers 378155 through 378340, and EFT -18357 <br />through EFT -18397 in the amount of $1,536,376.62; and Retiree Payroll for the pay period <br />ending March 31, 2018 in the amount of $57,808.40 <br />56 — Minutes of Meeting — March 21, 2018 <br />5C — Minutes of Study Session — March 28, 2018 <br />
