DIGITAL RECORDING -COUNCIL <br /> A PPROVE) <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> � 101 <br /> Wednesday, May 21, 2014 JUN <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> May 21, 2014, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br /> CENTER 345 a Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Greg Wheeler <br /> presiding. Council Members present were Eric Younger, Roy Runyon, Dino Davis, Jerry <br /> McDonald, and Mike Sullivan. Council Member Leslie Daugs was absent. Also present were City <br /> Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Council Assistant Christine Grenier; and Dave <br /> Sorenson, Information Services Network Administrator. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Mike Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend Kathleen Kingslight of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Patty Lent... <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Appreciation Award to Brvnnee Gent Cross Point Academy student, for <br /> her performance as a youth vocalist during the Cinco de Mayo Celebration which was accepted <br /> by Martita May on her behalf; <br /> • Was pleased to see local high school students enjoy their tour of the City's Waste Water <br /> Treatment Plant; <br /> • Hoped everyone would enjoy Kitsap Harbor Festival activities planned for May 24 to 25 on the <br /> Bremerton Marina & Boardwalk, and at the Port Orchard Marina & Park; <br /> • Read a Proclamation to proclaim May 26, 2014 in Observance of "Memorial Day "; <br /> • Announced a special Memorial Day Celebration to reflect and pay tribute to fallen heroes and <br /> their families on Sunday, May 25 at 8:00 PM at Miller- Woodlawn Memorial Park; <br /> • Also announced several other events to be held on Monday, May 26 including Memorial <br /> Services at 10:00 AM onboard the USS Turner Joy; 11:00 A at Forest Lawn Cemetery; 1:00 <br /> PM at Ivy Green Cemetery; and a 3:00 PM Flag Retirement Ceremony at NAD Park; <br /> • Encouraged the community to attend the Red Cross Open House at their new location at 811 <br /> Pacific Avenue on Friday, June 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM; <br /> • Shared photos of Council Members Wheeler, McDonald, and Davis along with City Directors <br /> Wyn Birkenthal and Chal Martin volunteering their time to clean up the City Gateway; <br /> • Hosted STEM Academy students who visited City Hall to learn about local government; <br /> • Announced that tickets are now available for the Annual Brewfest on July 12; and <br /> • Was pleased to report that work on the Warren Avenue Bridge has been completed and is now <br /> open to pedestrians. <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Mike Walton Bremerton Family YMCA Director, reported on the very successful "learn to swim" <br /> program; and announced that the pool will be closed from June 1 to the end of August for major <br /> upgrades and maintenance. <br /> Taylor Nlemy urged Council Members to ban the use of pesticides in the City and announced that <br /> there will be a "March against Monsanto" on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park. Jerry <br /> McDonald requested that Mr. Niemy provide alternatives in writing for the Council's consideration. <br />
