City Council Reg Mtg Minutes <br /> Wednesday, October 17, 2012 <br /> Page 2 of 6 <br /> Mary Jane Magnenat invited the community as well as former students and staff of Naval Avenue <br /> Elementary School to their 100th Anniversary Celebration on January 25 from 5 30 to 8 30 PM <br /> Taylor Niemv offered support for the "Cut the Fat' Campaign, announced that a bike ride is being <br /> organized for Friday, October 26 beginning at 6 00 PM at Bicycle Works Shop in Manette, and <br /> hoped that the Council would reconsider labeling chalk art as graffiti and wondered if the City did <br /> not change its opinion, what would be next <br /> Vern LaPrath was concerned about not only empty buildings, but businesses that are moving out <br /> of Bremerton, and asked what the City could do to be "business friendly' He also was concerned <br /> that former Mayor Cary Bozeman was being proposed to lead a citizen task force because he <br /> believes he was not good for Bremerton <br /> Jodette Parker agreed with former comments about respecting the flag <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Patty Lent <br /> • Responded that she was contacted last week about the flag situation and that those concerns <br /> were referred to the budding manager, and that the flags will be retired at dusk until the lights <br /> are finally repaired, <br /> • Proclaimed October 17, 2012 as "Dr. James Levey Engineer's Day ", Adam Brockus then <br /> presented a celebratory award for his work of engineering projects for the past few decades <br /> (former Permit Center, former City Hall, Boardwalk, Smith and Bachman Parks) throughout the <br /> City, and invited Mr. Levey of Art Anderson & Associates to accept the proclamation, <br /> • Proclaimed October 15 through 21, 2012 as "Adult Literacy Week ", and invited Ann <br /> Rudniki Kitsap Adult Center and Elaine Bryant Olympic College to accept the proclamation, <br /> • Proclaimed October 26, 2012 as "ARC of Kitsap and Jefferson Counties Awareness <br /> Day ", and invited Dave Rasmussen President for ARC of Kitsap and Jefferson Counties, to <br /> accept the proclamation, who then announced that the "ARC Live & Silent Auction" event <br /> would be held on October 26 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel to raise funds for 1,500 clients, and <br /> that he appreciates the support from community leaders that have helped keep ARC open, <br /> • Announced that the City of Bremerton will be participating in a Region -wide Earthquake Drill at <br /> 10 18 AM tomorrow, and encouraged other businesses to participate as well, <br /> • Invited Michael Kroston Re -Power Bremerton, who provided an update on the project, and <br /> directed interested homeowners and landlords to the website at www RePowerBremerton or-Q <br /> • Announced that the City of Bremerton Fire Department will be hosting a "Fire Prevention Day' <br /> event on October 20 from 10 00 AM to 4 00 PM at Fire Station No 1 located on Park Avenue, <br /> • Looked forward to the Ground - breaking Ceremony for the Youth Wellness Center on October <br /> 22 from 3 00 to 5 00 PM with a prospective opening date in June 2013, <br /> • Invited Council and the public to the Gorst Creek Watershed and Environmental Impact <br /> Statement (EIS) Scoping Meeting on October 29 from 5 00 to 7 00 PM on West Belfair Valley <br /> Highway, and <br /> • Invited John Powers Executive Director for Kitsap Economic Development Alliance (KEDA), <br /> to provide a quarterly report to the Council and that interested parties may be visit the KEDA <br /> website at www kitsageda org to register for upcoming events, and thanked Mayor Lent and <br /> Council Member Roy Runyon for serving on the Board of Directors <br />
