DIGITAL RECORDING CO <br /> APPROM <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES AUG 15 2012 <br /> Wednesday, August 1, 2012 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order <br /> Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 5 00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS <br /> GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6 th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Jim <br /> McDonald presiding Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Faye Flemister, Greg <br /> Wheeler, Roy Runyon, Adam Brockus, and Leslie Daugs Council Members Carol Arends and <br /> Eric Younger were absent Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich, City Clerk <br /> Shannon Corin, and Legislative Assistant Lori Smith <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Leslie Daugs followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Pastor Paul Meeker of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church <br /> SHORELINE MASTER PROGRAM UPDATE <br /> Nicole Floyd City Planner H, Community Development, provided a presentation on the <br /> Shoreline Master Program Update regarding "Code Layout and General Requirements" More <br /> information including the schedule of presentations can be found at SMP @ci bremerton wa us <br /> President McDonald reminded anyone planning to speak tonight during Public Recognition <br /> that per the Bremerton City Council Rules & Procedures no comments will be taken regarding <br /> any issues or candidates on the current ballot He also extended an apology to Vern LaPrath <br /> for not informing the public of this policy ahead of time <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Vern LaPrath accepted the apology, but reminded the Council Members to be cautious of <br /> violating a citizen's First Amendment right by limiting their speech <br /> Steve Jankowski and Syd Nunez past and present Exalted Rulers of the Bremerton Elks <br /> Club, Order 181, presented Mayor Patty Lent with the Citizen of the Year Award to recognize <br /> her efforts in the community <br /> Todd Best described his new "Help Wanted' campaign that will assure no City Council position <br /> goes unchallenged Thanked Wyn Birkenthal for assisting the efforts to clean up and improve <br /> Ivy Green Cemetery, and invited volunteers to again loin him as he continues the clean up this <br /> weekend Lastly, he expressed his concerns that the City hired another management position, <br /> the cost of retail pads in the City is too high, and his disappointment that the Council approved <br /> the public benefit issue that was on the last agenda <br /> Kurt Weist Executive Director of the Bremerton Housing Authority, invited the public to attend <br /> the Open House for the Renovation of the Winfield Apartments tomorrow, August 2 from 3 30 <br /> to 5 30 PM, and announced that an Open House for the new Bay Vista West is being planned <br /> for Wednesday, August 29, also from 3 30 to 5 00 PM <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Patty Lent <br /> • Invited John Powers Executive Director of KEDA to provide a briefing; <br /> • Discussed the success of the 2 nd annual Junior Firefighter Stag Climb event with the <br /> proceeds to benefit the family of Amma Bowman for medical expenses, <br />
